Fortum Battery Recycling has started commercial operations in April 2023 at its state-of-the-art hydrometallurgical battery material recycling facility in Harjavalta, Finland. The facility is the largest recycling plant in Europe in terms of recycling capacity, and it is also the first commercial-scale facility in Europe for hydrometallurgical recycling. The new large-scale facility eases the European battery manufacturers’ rising demand for sustainable battery materials, and reduces Europe’s dependence on imported critical battery raw materials.
